MogileFS is an open source distributed filesystem. Its properties and features include: Application level, No single point of failure, Automatic file replication, Better than RAID, Flat Namespace, Shared-Nothing, No RAID required, Local filesystem agnostic.

GlusterFS Honorable Mention

GlusterFS has a ways to go in stability, but is certainly on the right track. GlusterFS is a FUSE based filesystem that is mostly POSIX compliant. It is trivial to setup and configure, scales into the petabytes*, decentralized, and can easily grow and shrink capacity by adding storage bricks. The development community is active and extremely helpful.
